Brace yourself: Year in Review szn is fast approaching, and chances are Alvvays will be on everyone’s Best of 2022 lists (spoiler alert: including ours next week, probably). Everyone’s favorite Toronto alt-rock band livened up our collective year with their sparkling third album Blue Rev, led by a proper SOTY contender in “Easy On Your Own?”. But Molly Rankin and Co. aren’t spending December sitting back and sharing easy accolades, oh no — they’re getting their game on with a new music video for “Many Mirrors” in collaboration with developer and Stardew Valley creator Eric Barone.
Mutual fans of each others’ work, Barone created a magical side-scroll video game world that not only reminds us of after school hang sessions of our youth, but also fits the Alvvays vibe with ease.
“It’s not every day I get an email from a cool band like Alvvays,” admits Barone. “When I learned they were fans of Stardew Valley, it felt like a real honor. The whole album is fantastic, but the song ‘Many Mirrors’ had a pure, adventurous energy to it that really resonated with me. I took that feeling, and used it to create a visual world in my mind’s eye… and that’s what ultimately turned into this video. I had a lot of fun making it, and I’m really happy to be able to contribute, in a small way, to the band’s story!”
