New England bands benefit The Brigid Alliance with ‘After Hour’ covers comp

Christmas just went country for Boston’s annual Something Merry compilation.

Thirteen artists — including New England’s Future Teens (pictured above), Death Party, Weakened Friends, Mint Green, and Happy Just to See You — have chipped in Kacey Musgraves covers to create After Hour, a reimagined version of Musgraves’ 2018 album Golden Hour. The 2022 compilation will benefit The Brigid Alliance, a “referral-based service that provides travel, food, lodging, child care and other logistical support for people seeking abortions.”

The album dropped on Bandcamp Friday last week (December 2), sharing new renditions of Musgraves’ catalog from homegrown bands, Berklee graduates pronoun and Olivia Barton, and similar artists from across the country, such as Ratboys and Jetty Bones.

After Hour adds a new chapter to Something Merry’s seven-year history of using pop tunes to benefit social justice organizations; past editions have covered artists like Carly Rae Jepsen and Taylor Swift, and benefitted First Nations Development, Immigration Equality, Justice Initiative, the Chris Atwood Foundation, and similar projects.
