CHYLD pixelates his electro-pop in new single and video ‘Easy on Me’

Look, it’s time society admitted that playing video games isn’t childish — unless perhaps CHYLD is tapped into some “Keytar Hero.” The Boston songwriter and producer immerses himself in a realm of pixelated electropop for a new song and music video called “Easy on Me,” out today (November 30).

“We knew right away that the music video had to live in a video game world,” CHYLD tells Vanyaland, explaining his shared vision with videographer — and Mallcops drummer — Jimmy Del Ponte. “That was the first thing Jimmy and I talked about before going into the details or story.”

Leaning into that sci-fi twist, the video hurtles CHLYD into a universe where the futuristic visuals match the sparkle of his synths, as he whams on a keytar in a pair of overalls (inspired by Mario’s wardrobe, we’re assuming).

“I’ve always loved retro video games growing up and after reflecting on the song and production, it sounded almost pixelated,” CHYLD adds. “The song almost has a tension for my past, present, and future self and finding peace, growing up, and realizing what a content life feels like.” And there’s nothing childish about an epiphany like that.
