Goldpark fear no Whamageddon backlash with a cover of ‘Last Christmas’

Damn the Whamageddon: The annual contest to avoid Wham!’s holiday classic “Last Christmas” doesn’t actually start until December 1, and a close look into the rules states that covers and remixes do not apply; you need to actually hear George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley singing sweet Santa nothings for it to truly count. So we’re in the clear today (November 14) in sharing Goldpark’s version of the track, which arrives during a time where most are arguing whether or not it’s appropriate to be even discussing Christmas, let alone celebrate it.

But hey, the Nashville trio often play by their own rules, and now we’re getting our first holiday cover a robust 41 days until Christmas Day. ‘Tis the szn.

“‘Last Christmas’ was one of the first songs that came to our minds when thinking about Christmas songs that we would like to cover,” say Goldpark. “It strikes this interesting balance of being warm and bringing a smile to your face while also giving you a sense of sorrow. Those two things together tend to make a great Christmas song.”

Yeah, yeah, we know, and we agree. Listen to it now before we’re all sick to death of Christmas songs, and let Whamageddon run its proper reindeer course next month.
