While her hit HBO talk show says otherwise, Sam Jay is as far away from the pause button as you can get when it comes to her stand-up career. Now, fast-forward to next summer, and the locally-sourced comedy star is marking a new first in the city.
Announced today (November 9), the Dorchester-raised comedy standout will be making her way back to town next year for the first time in a hot minute with her first headlining takedown of The Wilbur stage on June 3. Most recently, Jay has manned the helm of her smash-hit HBO hybrid talk show Pause with Sam Jay, which concluded its second season this past summer. In addition to her critically-acclaimed hosting credit, Jay also released her first hour-long stand-up special, 3 In The Morning, on Netflix in 2020, and will be returning home for a quick stop at Comics Come Home 26 at TD Garden on Saturday (November 12).
The spicy months of 2023 are already sizzling for The Wilbur, and Neal Brennan will surely be fuel to the flame as, after only a few few weeks since his last visit to Boston, he’s already plotting a return with an all-new show, Brand New Neal on July 15. In addition to his recent stop at The Wilbur, Brennan is coming off a highly-successful tour of his latest one-man show Unacceptable, which sold out theaters all over the country for the better part of 2022. Earlier this week, his latest special Blocks premiered on Netflix, adding to his previously released special, the critically-acclaimed 3 Mics.
But before we get too ahead of ourselves and dream about warmer days, Bob Marley is continuing what has become something of a hometown tradish with an additional 5 p.m. show to make his previously announced upcoming stop at The Wilbur on December 29 a double dose of downeast hilarity. There are only a handful of comics in the game that fully encompass the true New England spirit, and Marley is arguably the ring leader with his refreshing disregard for staying inside the lines. As one of the most highly respected comedy voices in the region and beyond, Marley has proven that every chance to catch him live, whether it’s in a bar or a fully-seated theater, is worth it every time.
Tickets for all shows can be accessed now with presale code VANYA, before they go on sale to the general public on Friday (November 11) at noon ET, with the exception of the Neal Brennan show, which goes live the same day at 10 a.m. ET.
