Boston country artists unite to raise funds for reproductive care

When it comes to protecting the right to reproductive healthcare, voting is only part of the solution. With another nail-biting Election Day in the books, ONCE Somerville hopes to bolster local abortion funds with a country music benefit this Saturday (November 12) at the Center for Arts at the Armory.

The fundraiser wrangles sets from Boston acts Lonely Leesa and the Lost Cowboys, Hank Wonder, and Hayley Thompson-King (pictured above) to raise money for Women’s Health Services, a Brookline-based ambulatory surgical center that provides “skilled, comprehensive abortion care” and prioritizes discreet, confidential care. Following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, the center has been especially pivotal for traveling patients who cannot obtain a safe, legal abortion in their home state.

“This clinic provides safe, affordable, and honest abortion care to women right here in our community,” Thompson-King comments on Instagram. “As you can imagine, they are currently also serving an influx from states where women’s human rights are not recognized.”

The timely benefit follows Salem Wolves’ album Live at ONCE, which utilized the Boston group’s performance at the Boynton Yards outdoor space to raise money for the National Network of Abortion Funds.
