We got so distracted by BARDO-mania on Monday that we couldn’t post this trailer for some unknown little movie called Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, which Marvel and Disney dropped right at noontime as we were going out to buy BARDO Funko-Pops as an investment. It’s got everything you might expect from an Ant-Man picture: Paul Rudd struggling with his heroism and fatherhood, Michael Douglas and Michelle Pfieffer earning some fat paychecks, a Gregg Turkington cameo, and plenty of sci-fi action. On the other hand, however, it has something the Ant-Man films have avoided up to this point, which is being consequential to the unfolding of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as opposed to basically just being fun little side adventures. It’s the beginning of Phase 5, after all, and the proper introduction of Jonathan Majors’ Kang the Conqueror to the universe. This will, presumably, lead to Avengers: When We Were Kangs, in which Kang fought a Kang variant for the heavyweight title in Zaire back in ’74, and will inspire DC to make a Superman vs. Muhammad Ali movie, which will be dope but people will complain about. Anyway, the trailer!
Peep it:
And here’s an official synopsis, which should tell you that if you want any real details you probably should just watch the trailer:
“In the film, which officially kicks off phase 5 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Super-Hero partners Scott Lang (Paul Rudd) and Hope Van Dyne (Evangeline Lilly) return to continue their adventures as Ant-Man and the Wasp. Together, with Hope’s parents Hank Pym (Michael Douglas) and Janet Van Dyne (Michelle Pfeiffer), the family finds themselves exploring the Quantum Realm, interacting with strange new creatures and embarking on an adventure that will push them beyond the limits of what they thought was possible. Jonathan Majors joins the adventure as Kang. Director Peyton Reed returns to direct the film; Kevin Feige and Stephen Broussard produce.”
Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania hits theaters on February 17, 2023.
