MusicSummit Indie Fest

It’s always a good time when we’re road tripping in autumn, and this weekend there’s more to a drive up north than prime leaf-peepin’ (though that’s its own adventure, too): Summit Indie Fest holds court on Saturday (October 21) at Portsmouth Book & Bar, and the lineup is worthy of crossing state lines. Cliff Notez, Muzzins, Henry McIntyre, Talk Chalk, Sneaky Miles, Alaina Ray, and others perform live over the course of the day, boasting a diverse and eclectic lineup that mixes known names with prime discovery artists. Get the full lineup and set times here, and hit the homepage for the latest info.

Comedy: Lotsa options around Boston

Jason Greenough’s weekly Mic’d Up column usually gives a full week’s worth of live stand-up options that starts on the Monday the roundup goes live. This week, as it was, things get started tonight, so Mic’d Up has shifted into a weekend preview. And a solid weekend it is; instead of cherry-picking one option, we’ll just provide them all: Ian Edwards hits Laugh Boston tonight and tomorrow (October 21 and 22); Janelle Draper brings the good times to The Cabot’s Off Cabot Comedy Club in Beverly tomorrow; and on Sunday (October 23) a pair of headliners do their thing across town from each other, as Kenan Thompson’s Ultimate Comedy Experience crashes Laugh while Adam Sandler sizes up the new MGM Music Hall at Fenway (the first of two nights that continues on Monday). Lots going on.

Film/TV: Coolidge After Midnite at Medfield State Hospital

We’ve spent a good amount of time this year at Bellforge Arts Center, the new creative and performance hub at Medfield State Hospital, the former psychiatric center that opened in 1896. Amongst its cottages and walkable environs has been an increased fit of activity, and this weekend the Coolidge Corner Theatre’s After Midnite series sets up shop for a full slate of double-feature scaries at dusk: The Wolf Man (1941) and An American Werewolf in London on Friday (October 21); Beetlejuice and The Exorcist on Saturday (October 22); and Horror of Dracula and The Lost Boys on Sunday (October 23). The films are projected on a 40-foot screen provided by Boston Light and Sound — and you just can’t beat this location for some spooky October screenings.
