We call it broke, they call it “Brassic.” And we both call it not having any damn money because the rent — and literally everything else — is too damn high. That’s the punch and thrust behind the lively new single from English punk trio Grade 2, who today (October 17) via Epitaph / Hellcat Records unleash a melodic fury of Cockney rhyming slang with “Brassic.”
This new one follows last month’s rage against our miserable workday in “Doing Time”, and both are making the Isle of Wight band one of our new faves, full of shared adrenaline and a sharp view of our collective blackened reality. And put together as a narrative, the two tracks, maybe coincidentally, play out a tale as old as time: We’re all working full-time, but we still can’t afford shit.
“Brassic. Skint. Broke. On the bones of your arse,” say Grade 2. “The feeling too many of us feel day in day out. When you’re put on house arrest by your own bank balance, you have nothing to do but watch the world move while you stand still.”
Except this one will get you moving. Believe that.
