You can call her A.I.: Check out the first trailer for ‘M3GAN’

It Is (an October) Wednesday, My Dudes, which can only mean two things. First, there will be some creepy trailers coming out, given that there will be a whole bunch of horror and horror-related films dropping in the waning weeks of Spooky Season. Second, there’s playoff baseball airing. And you know what’s scarier than looking at your bet slip from the night before? The first trailer for the James Wan-produced sci-fi horror flick M3GAN, which we’ve known about for a bit — that insanely creepy poster dropped back in May at Cinemacon — has arrived. Universal dropped the footage on Tuesday, but we’ll be real with you:Tthey should have waited until Wednesday. There’s a reason everybody makes Frog memes about this day, and not Tuesday, which is one of the lamest days of the week. Anyhow, if you like your Chucky riffs pulpy and off-brand, check this one out, especially if you also love some goofy dancing.

Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis:

“M3GAN is a marvel of artificial intelligence, a life-like doll programmed to be a child’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. Designed by brilliant toy-company roboticist Gemma (‘Get Out’s’ Allison Williams), M3GAN can listen and watch and learn as she becomes friend and teacher, playmate and protector, for the child she is bonded to. When Gemma suddenly becomes the caretaker of her orphaned 8-year-old niece, Cady (Violet McGraw, ‘The Haunting of Hill House’), Gemma’s unsure and unprepared to be a parent. Under intense pressure at work, Gemma decides to pair her M3GAN prototype with Cady in an attempt to resolve both problems—a decision that will have unimaginable consequences.”

M3GAN will dance its way into theaters on January 13, but you shouldn’t be worried about the studio doldrums being an indicator of this one’s quality. Let’s be real: If fucking Escape Room made oodles of cash from a mid-January date, a James Wan-produced movie about a creepy A.I./doll will probably do exactly the same.
