Cold Expectations find harmony in the middle with ‘Hey Compromise’

Cold Expectations are playing Red on Red Records’ Dress Like a Rockstar Halloween party at The French Club in Waltham on October 29, and based off their new single, they might as well just show up as themselves. The Boston trio released “Hey Compromise” yesterday (October 6) via the indie label, and it’s an illuminating number that continues the band’s penchant for delivering moody power-pop doses that resonate long after first listen.

“Hey Compromise” is lyrically about a couple in conflict, but Cold Expectations find a glowing harmony in the spaces in between, and here take a songwriting cue from one of the best to do it.

“’Hey Compromise’ is a musical love letter to songwriter Tommy Keene, who passed in 2017,” says Cold Expectations’ Steve Prygoda. “He’s got a great tune called ‘Compromise’ — off the record Ten Years After — that we contemplated as a cover, but we decided to write an original instead. The result was ‘Hey Compromise’ — a little tribute to Tommy, keeping his strong power-pop sensibilities and penchant for darkness in mind. May his music live forever, without compromise.”

Fire it up below, and catch Cold Expectations at the aforementioned Halloween party alongside labelmates Stupidity, Andrea Gillis Band, Justine and The Unclean, and Speedfossil.
