V3 Weekend: Sigrid, JB Smoove, ‘Nosferatu’

Via Island Records

Editor’s Note: Welcome to V3 Weekend, Vanyaland‘s guide to help you sort out your weekend entertainment with curated selections and recommendations across our three pillars of MusicComedy, and Film/TV. It’s what you should know about, where you need to be, and where you’ll be going, with us riding shotgun along the way.

MusicSigrid at House of Blues

April 2017 was a long time ago, a damn millennium in pop years, but it was then when Sigrid first graced our digital pages, leading our V:Music playlist with “Plot Twist.” There was no such twist in her career arc, as the Norwegian artist has shot like a comet across the alt-pop galaxy, and tonight (September 30) makes a stop at Boston’s House of Blues. She’s showing off many wares, including May album How To Let Go, which features galactic rager “It Gets Dark” and Bring Me The Horizon collab “Bad Life.” Sigrid says: “The concept of How To Let Go is the thread that runs through the album and through my life – just letting go of things you say, of people that have hurt you, or situations where I have been stupid. Life is about letting go and moving on. It sounds so simple, but it never is.” Tonight we’re moving on to Lansdowne Street.

SIGRID :: Friday, September 30 at House of Blues, 15 Lansdowne St. in Boston, MA :: 7 p.m., $25 to $39.50 :: Event info :: Advance tickets

Comedy: JB Smoove at The Wilbur

From Curb Your Enthusiasm to the Spider-Man franchise and a million appearances in between, seeing JB Smoove up on the screens is like seeing an old friend pull up for a catch-up. The dependable veteran is back in Boston tonight (September 30), holding court at The Wilbur. Here’s what Jason Greenough has to say in this week’s Mic’d Up: “Constantly delivering high-level hilarity on the stage and screen has made JB Smoove one of comedy’s most dependable utility men for more than 20 years. His longevity in the craft is admirable to say the least, and being able to sustain his level of comedic power and energy is almost unheard of. An absolutely solid night with an absolutely solid artist.”

JB SMOOVE :: Friday, September 30 at The Wilbur Theatre, 246 Tremont St. in Boston, MA :: 7:30 p.m., $37 to $57 :: Advance tickets

Film/TV: Nosferatu at The Brattle

It’s official: Spooky SZN arrives at midnight, and what better way to usher in the greatest month of the year than with a 100th anniversary celebration and screening of perhaps the most influential horror film of all time — Nosferatu. The Brattle in Cambridge posts it up tonight (September 30), kickstarting the Halloween vibes in classic cinematic style. The Brattle writes: “You’re going to see a lot of vampire celebrations this October (even here at the Brattle with our Vampires in the Arthouse series) since this horror gem turns 100 years old in 2022. Arguably the earliest surviving supernatural vampire film, Murnau’s uncredited adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula features an uncanny performance by Max Schreck as Count Orlok — a sinister figure who draws an unwitting man and his innocent wife into his deadly web.

NOSFERATU :: Friday, September 30 at The Brattle, 40 Brattle St. in Cambridge, MA :: 9 p.m., $12 to $14 :: Event page :: Advance tickets
