Hey now, hey now, Baby Cate’s dream ain’t over. No matter how many times the Boston artist awakes a few moments too soon, she’s still searching for the visions of superstardom that come to her when she’s nodding off. “Quit my job / I was hella big” she raps in her new single “SLEEP,” describing what her imagination conjures up — right before she’s rudely awakened.
“This has happened too many times that I could count,” Baby Cate explains. “You’re about to get to the good part of a dream, and then, fuck, you’re awake.” And hey, if you’re wide awake, you might as well make sure no one’s sleeping on you.
The new single arrived earlier this month (September 2) with a music video by TikTok creator boomshadowdace, who’s known for elevating shadow puppetry to the level of high art. As his hands manipulate the darkness into a full-fledged story, Baby Cate counts down the hours until her head can hit the pillow — and she can hit dreamland — again.
“Can’t believe I gotta wait until tonight,” she sings. But you can catch some “SLEEP” right now, sans pillow in broad daylight.
