Indigo Bay introduce us to their ‘Grimsby grit’ through the propulsive ‘Bats’

Hey there, happy Wednesday, Indigo Bay are serving up something called “Grimsby grit.” And it sounds pretty fucking good. The indie-pop band from the coastal English town dropped a propulsive single called “Bats” today (August 17), and it’s a cruising track of Hook-ian basselines, somersault synths, and a lofty push that has the ability to rinse our souls clean.

The track celebrates Indigo Bay’s recent signing to Heist or Hit — we’re betting it’s the latter for these lads — which will release their debut EP After Dark in November 9. “‘Bats’ is about our attempt to try and create a name for ourselves in Grimsby,” the band admits. “There’s a drive to make it because of the negative reputation the town has been given.”

Here comes the positivity. When vocalist Callum Minks casually, but emphatically, offers up the lyric “Give it a little life, give it some hype!”, well, we’re buying in. We’re all pretty much making do in decaying shitholes these days, from our side of the world to theirs.

“Coming from Grimsby gave us an unnatural energy to be creative,” they add. “We originally wanted to be the band in town that could get people up dancing, but the scene is overwhelmed by metal and hard rock. Supporting metal bands locally isn’t what we had in mind. We’ve coined this term ‘Grimsby Grit’ and that’s an element that’s in our sound.”

Whatever we’re calling it, expect a lot more noise from Indigo Bay, from pretty much right now to forever and ever. Ace tune, as they say. Come get it.
