It’s usually around the middle of July when the summer mood takes our wanderlust brain off to far-away places, even as our physical being is stuck and trapped amongst the huddled masses. We get this sensation usually right at the start of spring, as the weather warms and the world feels a lot smaller, and then at the peak of summer, when escapism rules the vibe and we wish we were… anywhere but here.
That’s the sentiment behind the lush alt-pop tune from Ayla D’lyla, an effervescent new single out today (July 13) via Snafu Records called, appropriately enough, “Anywhere But Here.” And when the classically trained vocalist and Manhattan native sings about not fitting in with the city and ignoring the eight million people around her, well, we feel that.
D’lyla describes the track as “a gentle, light song that captures a journey of escapism,” adding: “‘Anywhere But Here’ embodies the feeling of leaving the smoggy city and finding satisfaction in the simplicity of nature.”
It’s a necessary fling as summer reaches its zenith, and the comedown countdown to Labor Day starts to feel a little more real. Get into “Anywhere But Here” below, and use it to soundtrack your escape, whether it be physical or mental.
