The Machine Gun Kelly show at TD Garden tonight (June 25) has lost a bit of its firepower as PVRIS have been suddenly dropped from the bill. And the Lowell-born alt-pop project led by Lynn Gunn says it was all rather unexpected and unceremonious.
“Boston: Unfortunately, we have been informed by Machine Gun Kelly and his team that he cannot accommodate our scheduled performance tomorrow at TD Garden,” PVRIS tweeted on Friday night. “We are so sorry to any of you who bought tickets to see us. We will have more news soon to hopefully make this up to you.”
The show is the latest stop on Machine Gun Kelly’s ongoing Mainstream Sellout Tour, which brought PVRIS on board to open two nights; tonight in Boston and Sunday at the Waterfront Music Pavilion in Camden, New Jersey, just outside Philadelphia. Ohio rapper Trippie Redd is the other support act on the two shows, part of a revolving cast of openers that also includes Avril Lavigne, Willow, Travis Barker. and others.
PVRIS added the Twitter thread, tweeting: “Rest assured, this was not our decision, and fully that of Machine Gun Kelly and his team. We are extremely disappointed by this entire situation. As far as we are aware, we will still be playing in Philadelphia on Sunday.”
That seemed to be news to Mr. MGK, who tweeted back: “you actually weren’t informed by me at all, because i never knew anything about that.”
Uh-oh!
We’ll post more info if it becomes available.
But it’s a surprise to see this sudden rift between the two artists, especially as it pertains to what is in PVRIS’ case essentially a hometown show. Two years ago, Machine Gun Kelly sampled the vocal on PVRIS’ track “My House” for Day 19 of his 2020 Lockdown Session performance of “in these walls”. Hear it below.
