Bleach the Sky resurrect a ’90s alt-rock glow with ‘I Just Fade’

The official start of the summer arrived earlier this week, but it’s this upcoming weekend where the season really pops off, with a handful of notable road-trip events just outside the city (Summer Sounds, Concert for Ukraine, etc.). So as we jump in the car and hit the road, we’re bringing Bleach The Sky’s new single “I Just Fade” along for the ride, giving us a burst of lush nostalgia to when our vehicles were leaded with 6-CD changers, printed MapQuest directions, and not a single fucking care in the world.

The latest from the Boston band, out today (June 24), resurrects that ’90s alt-rock glow, the type of post-grunge track that would have moved mountains on WFNX. And underneath the swell of guitars and razor-sharp vocals are more modern themes fit for the paranoid tension of the current day. Because hey, it’s impossible to do anything right now without carrying some sort of uneasy dread.

“‘I Just Fade’ is… born out of experiences from quarantine as well as feelings of disillusionment and introspection,” Bleach The Sky tell Vanyaland. “There’s definitely a heavy ’90s alternative influence to this track but at the same time we tried to use modern dynamics. We feel this is our best work yet and are stoked about the release!”

As they should be. Featuring some of the most magnetic guitar work we’ve heard so far this year out of Boston, “I Just Fade” was recorded in Bayonne, New Jersey with producers Adam Cichocki and Jon Markson, and follows the band’s 2020 debut EP Acid Girl. Take it with you this weekend, wherever the road leads.
