It’s an age-old question, and one that is forever ridden with nervous anxiety from the person who asks it: “Are You Mine?” For Gorran, it’s also the name of the East London alt-pop artist’s heartfelt new single, which dropped this past Friday (June 10). The follow-up to last month’s more electro-leaning “I’m Sorry” and another selection from his forthcoming July EP Grown Up, “Are You Mine” is a raw and wistful ballad that showcases Gorran’s vocal heights as he tries to fix a broken relationship.
So perhaps we already know the answer to the question.
“‘Are You Mine?’ is a song about fighting for a one-sided relationship,” he affirms. “The lyrics came together really quickly to tell this story of one person desperate for the other to stay, but finding only isolation and misery at the hands of the person they love. It’s one of the most vocally challenging songs I’ve ever written but I’m glad I wrote it in the key that I did. It’s really hard-hitting.”
Gorran is spending the summer promoting the new EP with a handful of live gigs around his native England, with plenty more to follow as his profile grows. It seems he’ll be over on our shores in no time, and American fans can then lay a claim to him as well. Get into “Are You Mine?” below.
