This weekend feels like a coming out party. Or, perhaps, a going out party — as the Memorial Day weekend is the first in a long while, it seems, where there are several good-time options happening all at once around the city and beyond, from intimate club shows to large-scale music festivals. Diablogato’s Party At The Porch hits that sweet spot right in the middle, cruising up to Medford’s The Porch Southern Fare & Juke Joint for a Saturday (May 28) afternoon of bands, cars, motorcycles, food, and the beautiful fucking thrill of just being outside.
“Diablogato has wanted to throw a party like this for a few years,” drummer Jesse Mayer tells Vanyaland. “The idea being to create an event that ups the three-ring circus game of what we are about. We really love rock and roll, cool old cars, motorcycles, great food, and a good time.”
It’s hosted by the band alongside Rum Bar Records, Los Coronas Car Club, and The Porch, with a music slate that features Diablogato, The Dogmatics, Jittery Jack, and our faves Duck & Cover, who in February dropped one of the best Boston tracks of 2022 in the blistering “Memento Mori.”
Across the afternoon, The Porch cracks up the food for the soul, Bone Up Brewing Company hosts a beer garden, and Los Coronas welcomes all hot rods, customs, stockers, and bikes to The Porch lot. Like Jittery Jack once said, everyone will be “Havin’ A Time,” alright.
Mayer credits Jonathan Post and The Porch, Malibu Lou and Rum Bar Records, and Los Coronas Car Club in supporting Diablogato in throwing a Kustom Culture-style bash. And he hope to make it an annual thing — but that sweet spot in the middle once again comes into play.
“Jonathan at Porch has been really great about providing an environment close to Boston where we can make it happen,” Mayer adds. “Because this is the first time we’ve attempted this, if we get 30 cool cars on Saturday we will be stoked. But if 100 show up, we may be kinda fucked.”
That’s going out in style.
