Congratulations, zoomers: You now have enough cultural capital to be worth skewering in an A24 prestige horror flick with a prime mid-summer release date. In a way, it kind of feels like Bodies Bodies Bodies, which premiered with some decent notices at SXSW back in March, is a prime parody of the A24 zoomer aesthetic — millennials got hit with the first dose of that with Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers, but with Euphoria and all the other shit that the kid who’s dad directed Diner is putting out, it feels like it’s finally solidified into a real-ass trend. Bisexual lighting, neon outfits, salacious yet anhedonic content: It’s pretty fucking cool, but also very funny? Hopefully, this will be better than a number of the other influencer-themed horror flicks that are desperate for attention, but who knows? This trailer that A24 dropped on Tuesday morning doesn’t give too much away.
Peep it:
Here’s a synopsis, which is short on details but long on… character? We don’t really know:
“When a group of rich 20-somethings plan a hurricane party at a remote family mansion, a party game turns deadly in this fresh and funny look at backstabbing, fake friends, and one party gone very, very wrong.”
Bodies Bodies Bodies arrives in theaters on August 5, which means there should be enough wild Coachella-related antics to emerge in the press to make this film look tame in comparison. Also, holy shit, somehow we made it through this entire post without a Drowning Pool reference! We know we ruined it just now, but how many folks do you think made a joke about “Bodies hitting the floor” in either the title or the text of their news post? We’re setting the over/under at… 45. It feels low, but you never know — we writers might have gotten more creative with our pop-culture references. Nah.
