After the sudden and tragic death of drummer Taylor Hawkins last week in South America, the immediate future of the Foo Fighters was cast in doubt. On Tuesday (March 29), Dave Grohl and the band revealed that they are cancelling all of their upcoming live appearances and tour dates, including a Memorial Day weekend headlining set at Boston Calling Music Festival. See the band’s note below.

A short time later, Boston Calling confirmed that Foo Fighters will not headline the Friday portion of this year’s lineup.

“Following the loss of beloved drummer Taylor Hawkins, Foo Fighters have cancelled all upcoming shows, including headlining at Boston Calling,” the festival writes. “We extend our deepest condolences to the band, Taylor Hawkins’ loved ones & fans around the world. We will announce a new headliner soon.”

Foo Fighters were set to close an opening-day slate on May 27 that also features Haim, Rufus Du Sol, Cheap Trick, Oliver Tree, The Struts, Pom Pom Squad, and more. The Strokes are headlining the Saturday lineup, and Metallica close things out on Sunday. Boston Calling is returning to the Harvard Athletic Complex in Allston this spring after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic.

We’ll post further updates as soon as they come in.
