As live entertainment slowly makes its way back into our social lives — mask up! stay safe! — we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (March 6).
Comedy Night at Night Shift Brewing
Fresh pints and fresh laughs at one of the area’s best breweries makes for a great night out already. But when you add the fact that they won’t keep you too long in the process, with some of the best comedy voices throwing it down for just over an hour, it’s more than enough to help shake off the midweek malaise.
Wednesday, March 2 :: Night Shift Brewing, 87 Santilli Highway in Everett :: Tickets are $15
Michael Kosta at The Crystal Ballroom
While he may not be tackling topics of the day on stage like he does during his day job, the Daily Show correspondent brings forth a fresh hour of personal and powerful stand-up during a rare trip to the area.
Friday, March 4 at 7 p.m. :: The Crystal Ballroom at Somerville Theatre, 55 Davis Square in Somerville :: Tickets are $27
Matteo Lane at Laugh Boston
Very few comics today have the potent mixture of verbal illustration and physical comedy that Matteo Lane has attained. It’s never a dull moment with the Inside The Closet co-host, and the sold out quartet of shows is a direct indicator of how much of a damn good time Lane brings to the stage.
Friday, March 4 to Saturday, March 5 :: 7:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. both nights :: Laugh Boston, 425 Summer St. in Boston :: All shows sold out
Derek Gaines at The Rockwell
With a crushing observational wit, and a storytelling streak that elevates his sets to a whole new level, Gaines keeps it real from end to end, and catching him in this sort of intimate setting is not only a great idea for a night on the town, but also a rare chance to see a true onstage killer up-close and personal.
Saturday, March 5 :: The Rockwell, 255 Elm St. in Somerville :: Tickets are $20
