Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas are in ‘Deep Water’ in this teaser

It’s not every day that we get to use the words “Ben Affleck” and “erotic thriller” in the same sentence, so forgive us for being pretty excited that the trailer for Adrian Lyne’s Deep Water, an erotic thriller starring Ben Affleck and Ana de Armas, has finally arrived. Disney was originally going to put this one out in theaters but changed their minds basically a week or two before it was originally scheduled to come out in January, and it’s looking like it has now found a home on Hulu. Lyne’s a wonderfully wacky director — between Fatal Attraction, Indecent Proposal, and Jacob’s Ladder, you basically have the triple-threat of batshit late-’80s/early-’90s blockbuster thrillers — and we can’t wait to see what he’ll do with the former “it couple,” as the last time someone did that with Affleck, we got fucking Gigli.

Peep it:

Here’s a synopsis:

“Based on the celebrated novel by famed mystery writer Patricia Highsmith (‘The Talented Mr. Ripley’), ‘Deep Water’ takes us inside the marriage of picture-perfect Vic (Affleck) and Melinda (de Armas) Van Allen to discover the dangerous mind games they play and what happens to the people that get caught up in them. Directed by Adrian Lyne from a screenplay by Zach Helm and Sam Levinson, based on the novel ‘Deep Water’ by Patricia Highsmith, ‘Deep Water’ stars Ben Affleck, Ana de Armas, Tracy Letts, Lil Rel Howery, Dash Mihok, Finn Wittrock, Kristen Connolly, Jacob Elordi, Rachel Blanchard, Michael Braun, Jade Fernandez, Grace Jenkins, Brendan C. Miller, Devyn Tyler and Jeff Pope.”

Deep Water will swan dive onto Hulu on March 18. It’s kind of strange that Disney’s now using Hulu as their home for more adult-themed content that they’re deeming unsuitable for theater. Between this and Good Luck to You, Leo Grande, it’s looking more and more like that prediction some folks had when the Disney/Fox acquisition went down — that the family-friendly House of Mouse would ultimately have a chilling effect on mature media given their desire to rake in as much profit as humanly possible — is coming true. Either way, we’re gonna check this one out.
