Editor’s Note: Even in the dead of winter, there is never a shortage of comedy shows to check out around Boston, as homegrown talent, national headliners, and open mics galore highlight the calendar. As live entertainment slowly makes its way back into our social lives — mask up! stay safe! — we always want to make sure you know about cool stuff going on in the world of comedy. Enter Mic’d Up, our ongoing weekly series that details the best live comedy shows to consider as you head out and about. Below find our rundown for this week, through Sunday (February 20).
Eleanor Conway’s Vaxxed & Waxxed at White Bull Tavern
Join the UK comic as she brings her highly-touted new show, which received critical praise at Edinburgh Fringe, to White Bull. Detailing her takes on dating and being child-free, among a myriad of other thoughts and viewpoints, Conway sets the bar pretty damn high as she’s vaxxed, waxed, and ready to cli— you get the point.
Thursday, February 17 at 7:30 p.m. :: White Bull Tavern, 1 Union St. in Boston :: Tickets are $20
Drunk Black History at The Rockwell
Join hosts Brandon Collins and Gordon Baker-Bone as they bring their popular podcast to Somerville for night of getting historically hammered. Featuring a lineup of local stand-up all-stars Bethany Van Delft, J. Smitty, Izzy da Rosa and Jay Whittaker, not only delves into the intricate (albeit drunkenly delivered) details of black history, but also serves up a resounding “Cheers!” – both literally and figuratively- in celebration of black culture and those who blazed the trails to it.
Thursday, February 17 at 9:30 p.m. :: Rockwell Theatre, 255 Elm St. in Somerville, MA :: Tickets are $20
Tim Meadows at Roar! Comedy Club
The comedy genius of Tim Meadows has flooded many avenues over the years, and his stand-up is no exception. Bringing with him the same skill set that sustained his legendary stint on Saturday Night Live, as well as countless movie and TV cameos both inside and outside of the Sandlerverse, Meadows’ visit to Springfield is not to be missed. Rest assured, Dewey Cox, you certainly do want some of this shit.
Friday, February 18 and Saturday, February 19 :: Roar! Comedy Club, 1 MGM Way in Springfield, MA :: 7:15 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. (both nights) :: Tickets are $28
Luis J. Gomez at Regent Theatre
We know from his seat at The Legion of Skanks that Luis J. Gomez is brutally open and honest, brash and unafraid of tackling taboo, or subjects that would make a lot of people squirm a bit. But with his stand-up, we get all of that and then some as the comedy vet further drives home the point that he doesn’t give a damn about zeroing in on any topic that comes to mind from behind the mic.
Saturday, February 19 at 8 p.m. :: Regent Theatre, 7 Medford St. in Arlington, MA :: Tickets are $25 to $40
