Something is stalking Jesse Buckley in the ‘Men’ teaser

Holy shit, there’s a brand-new Alex Garland film coming out in a few months! Talk about a last-minute surprise from A24, which is re-teaming with the Ex Machina director for Men, a horror film starring freshly Oscar-nominated actor (and indie scene darling) Jesse Buckley as a woman being stalked by some mysterious thing in rural England. It seems like they’re gonna have a couple of good months this spring — Everything Everywhere All At Once, X, and now this — that’s a pretty solid slate if we do say so ourselves. If you haven’t checked out Ex Machina or Annihilation (which totally rules), definitely seek those out, as well as Devs, Garland’s series for FX that dropped right around when the world was going to hell back in March 2020 (we know you were probably watching Tiger King then, no worries). Anyhow, A24 dropped a teaser for the project earlier on Tuesday, and it’s worth getting creeped the hell out by.

Take a look:

Here’s a synopsis, though we wish you luck in prying any useable information out of this one — after all, it’s not like Alex Garland movies aren’t best experienced totally cold, and we’re sure A24 just wants to spoil the hell out of this one for shits and giggles:

“In the aftermath of a personal tragedy, Harper (Jessie Buckley) retreats alone to the beautiful English countryside, hoping to have found a place to heal. But someone or something from the surrounding woods appears to be stalking her. What begins as simmering dread becomes a fully-formed nightmare, inhabited by her darkest memories and fears in visionary filmmaker Alex Garland’s (‘Ex Machina,’ ‘Annihilation’) feverish, shape-shifting new horror film.”

Men will arrive in theaters on May 20, which seems like pretty decent arthouse horror counterprogramming to both Downton Abbey 2: Downton Harder and DC’s Legion of Super-Pets. Honestly, all this really needs is a version of “It’s Raining Men” performed by the Men for a “Music Inspired by the Film” soundtrack for Men, and then it’ll be a perfect ouroborous of Men-related content.
