Skott explores a new path forward on sci-fi visual ‘Rule The World’

Like Suede once assured us back in the late-’90s, every Monday morning comes, and this one has arrived right on schedule. Winter Mondays are perhaps the worst Mondays, and the frigid air around New England has us daydreaming of better things ahead. Or, best case scenario, the ability to leave the planet entirely.

That’s our mood as Skott’s new visual for “Rule The World” washes over us this morning (February 7). The Swedish singer, songwriter, and producer released her seven-track concept EP A Letter From The Universe in January, and last week offered this up as its latest spotlight, a song and video combo about forging a new path forward.

“Sometimes I get this feeling, like many I think, of not fitting in or even wanting to be a part of the world I see in front of me today,” says Skott. “The alien symbolizes new ideas, the unfamiliar and different, uncomfortable growth towards change. The yearning to shake things up and challenge an aged power structure. I wanted the video to feel beautiful yet slightly unsettling, playing with elements of sci-fi fantasy and surrealism.”

And the inspiration behind the music of “Rule The World” falls in line with that thinking.

“To me, this song is a she,” Skott adds. “The production is soft, subtle yet strong and effective. With only a few elements, the chorus still hits in some mysterious way, without any impact or build-up. It’s like she gently rolls into your brain without using any ‘worldly’ physical force. The song is about a slightly different way of experiencing and exercising power. It’s about being optimistic and hopeful about the future.”

We just have to get through the morning.
