Tempers reflect a detachment of the lonely city in ‘Nightwalking’

It feels like a million years ago in modern-day metrics, but just last month we were treated to “Unfamiliar”, a fresh first taste of Tempers‘ forthcoming album New Meaning. This week, the New York City duo of Jasmine Golestaneh and Eddie Cooper unveil another shadowy slice of spectral synth-pop, this time through “Nightwalking,” a twisting track inspired by the impact of the pandemic on their city.

“I took a lot of long walks at a time when people had abruptly vacated NYC, and left the remnants of their homes on the sidewalks,” says Golestaneh. “The city’s landscape became very surreal — a ghost town turned inside out. I was thinking about how to stay open, and embrace life derailed. The sky over the city was a real source of mystery, in its own world of pink sunsets, and sparkling nights. The contrast of that oblivious beauty amidst the pandemic chaos felt very special, and inspired the song.”

As Tempers’ beats bounce off high rise buildings and synths simmer up from the asphalt, it’s clear “Nightwalking” is another key piece to the LP’s nocturnal puzzle. New Meaning is out April 1 via Dais Records, and Tempers will show it off through a handful of North American dates that begin with an appearance in March at SXSW.
