GRLS convey psychedelic thoughts in a night time mood on ‘fool for love’

Those who were driving through the Boston streets around Berklee College of Music back in 2018 were likely unaware that some low-key magic was happening just over a few walls in an unsuspecting dorm room. That’s where multi-instrumentalists and producers Lucca Necoechea and Diego Andlovin formed GRLS, and the psychedelic-pop duo, now based back in Mexico City, and crafted their delectable new drum n’ bass-tinged single “fool for love.” It’s a rattling electronic-pop number that seems to echo off the dark of night, and expands and contracts in line with the moody feelings of those listening.

“‘fool for love’ was conceived with our friend and singer Jack O’Connor, while we were studying at Berklee College of Music,” GRLS relay. “We used our dorm room as a makeshift recording studio using only computer, microphone, and guitar. This song talks about love and psychedelic thoughts.”

Those psychedelic thoughts convey quite nicely in the effortless glide of “fool for love,” the duo’s third single to be featured on their forthcoming debut album. That is set for release later this year by Mexico City-based label Movida Música, a division of Los Angeles’ Vitalic Noise Music Group.

GRLS’ time at Berklee was short (hey, no fault there), as Necoechea and Andlovin left after their first year to return home to Mexico, building out GRLS to a multi-media experience to enhance the project’s vision were all music and visuals were written, produced, mixed, mastered, directed, photographed, and edited by themselves. It’s no secret that we’ll probably hear a lot more from GRLS in 2022.
