Mint Green don’t just want you to see their body language — they want you to hear it, too. The Boston band dropped their new single and music video “Body Language” yesterday (January 13), coupled with news that they’re now part of the Pure Noise Records family.

“I was so happy to hear about Pure Noise’s interest in us because not only have I been a fan of the bands on their roster since high school, but they also stand out to me as a label that is homegrown and maintains good relationships with their artists,” lead singer Ronnica tells Vanyaland. “A good amount of bands on their roster have been with them for over a decade! if that isn’t a testament to the character of the folks that work over at pure noise, then I don’t know what is!”

The group’s new chapter begins with the aggressive yearning that bleeds through “Body Language.” The new track tears a hole in Mint Green’s usual dream punk, as it escalates from a tone of admiration to aggravation. First, Ronnica coos it: “You are to me something I wish I could be.” Then, she repeats herself, and let her raw vocals rip.

“This song is an ode to the person in your life that seems to always remain level-headed in times of crisis,” Ronnica explains. “They’re able to handle stress in a healthy way and remain cool and collected. Not only that, but they’re also able to be empathetic and understanding of all the different sides that may be present. You look to them and wonder how they do it. You wish you could be more like them.”

But for the time being, Mint Green just have to be true to themselves.

“[Pure Noise] gave us full creative control to put out a record that’s true to our sound,” adds drummer Daniel Huang. “I recall Jake Round [Pure Noise founder and owner] saying something to the effect of not wanting us to ‘fit the mold’ that their label has established.”
