Beverly’s Cabot Theatre has been a landing spot for a cavalcade of top-tier comedy entertainment over the years, but come this spring, there will be a new room in town to help spread the comedy joy around the North Shore.

As announced this week, The Cabot Theatre and John Tobin Presents have teamed up to bring a new comedy venue, Off-Cabot Comedy Club, to Beverly later this winter. With a hopeful opening slated for late February or early March, the intimate 150-seat venue, located at 9 Wallis St. — just down the street from its parent venue — will serve as the newest hotspot for comedy talent from the North Shore and the greater Boston area.

“Ryan Cott and I, and all of us at John Tobin Presents, have enjoyed a successful and fun working partnership with Casey [Soward] and his team at the Cabot over the past several years. Everything to us is about relationships that are sincere, meaningful, mutually beneficial and enduring,” says John Tobin. “To integrate our teams in order to make Off-Cabot a reality is beyond exciting and a real example of collaboration. We are so eager to make great shows and events happen in our new, shared space.”

The location of the latest addition to the JTP family of venues, which include Nick’s Comedy Stop and Laugh Boston, was originally called The Grand Salon when it was owned by the magic show Le Grand David and His Spectacular Magic Company. It was then renamed 9 Wallis and operated as a blues club before the club closed down in June of 2020. The Cabot will be installing new sound and lighting systems and giving it a “refresh,” according to the Executive Director of The Cabot, J. Casey Soward.

While there haven’t been any acts announced for the new space quite yet, the first bookings are aiming to be posted by the end of the month. We will be sure to provide updates as they become available.
