Shame take us gently into the holidays with festive single ‘Baldur’s Gate’

Maybe it’s because last year was oh so very dark, but we seem to be noticing not just an uptick in holiday tunes this year, but actually decent ones fit for festive playlists. We’ve already hyped covers by Scandroid, The Aquadolls, and Tall Heights, but now along comes British rabble-rousers Shame with an original composition called “Baldur’s Gate.” It follows the band’s 2018 cover of José Feliciano’s “Feliz Navidad,” and seems to be inspired, at least partially, by that time-honored holiday tradition of hooking up.

“It’s another Christmas classic,” says Shame frontman Charlie Steen. “It’s about a period of time in which I’d regularly be trekking up to the streets of Edinburgh to see an ex-partner… These are some of the thoughts I’d have when I’d be leaving Waverley station, en route back to London in the winter nights.”

When Steen requests “Take me gently,” well, it doesn’t get any more Christmas than that. Fire up “Baldur’s Gate” below, be sure revisit Shame’s sophomore album, Drunk Tank Pink, which dropped way back in January, and scan through the band’s 2022 North American tour dates, which includes an appearance at The Sinclair in Cambridge.
