Tempers’ new single “Unfamiliar” is less a song and more an aura.
The New York City electronic duo of Jasmine Golestaneh and Eddie Cooper, who made us swoon n’ croon with 2019 album Private Life, return this week with a spectral force of shadow pop that entices a promise of what’s to come — for both the nocturnal project, and for ourselves.
“‘Unfamiliar’ explores the idea of progress, and what qualities might be needed to actualize it,” says Golestaneh. “So often change is just a rebranding of the same structures and conventions, history repeating itself. But also on a personal level, it’s hard not to repeat mistakes, habits are so seductive. I was thinking about the power of liminal space, and how building a tolerance to unfamiliarity might be a revolutionary act.”
Tempers’ forthcoming act arrives via a new self-produced album, titled New Meaning, out April 1 via Dais Records. Let “Unfamiliar” set a mood for what should be one of the more intriguing records of 2022, and let Tempers cast a spell of detached warmth to carry us through winter.
