Gimme Santa: The Scrooges are playing the O’Brien’s Christmas party

This just in: The 2021 Christmas season doesn’t actually start on Black Friday — it officially kicks off December 5, when The Scrooges return to the stage in boozy, beautiful fury to play O’Brien’s Pub’s in Allston. The show is part of the venue’s Christmas Party Toy Drive, a longtime December tradition passed down Harvard Avenue from its now-closed sister venue, Great Scott.

Oh, and also on the bill is My Dick.

There is no cover to attend, but everyone has to bring an unwrapped toy (or make a donation at the door), as is the annual custom.

Details beyond all that are unknown, but honestly, what else do you need to know? The Scrooges are the world’s greatest Santa-themed Stooges cover band, back after taking last year off due to Covid-19, and My Dick sing parody cover songs about, well, their dick. It’s all shaping up to be a pretty nice little Sunday in Allston: Go and get your Christmas tree at the lot next door, then let The Scrooges fill your stocking with coal. After the way we’ve all acted this year, we deserve it.

For those unfamiliar with The Scrooges, watch the vintage video below from 2008, and read our 2018 feature story David Unger and Pete Knipfing reflecting on the band turning 20 (yes, as in 20 years of this shit). Merry Christmas!
