Kasabian return with recognizable swagger on ‘ALYGATYR’

Not too long ago some amateur live video circulated out of Kasabian’s live shows in Europe, showing off the British band’s rearranged new lineup that features co-founder, guitarist, and longtime songwriter Serge Pizzorno up front as vocalist. Pizzorno has taken up the Kasabian mic in replacing familiar voice Tom Meighan, who last year left the group after a domestic assault conviction and casting the quartet’s future into doubt. The videos posted online showed Kasabian still have a fire that burns, and now the dudes are straight up arsonists in a new single called “ALYGATYR.”

Officially out today (October 27), “ALYGATYR” is a lethal track full of the band’s recognizable swagger, sonically taking us back to somewhere between 2006 sophomore album Empire and 2009’s follow-up West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum. It’s a jam for the fans, and a bit of reassurance that the departure of Meighan isn’t about to slow down the remaining members. As Kasabian describe it on their social media pages: “Pure banger.”

It sure is.

This probably won’t earn the band any new fans, but that’s probably not the point. Instead, Pizzorno and Kasabian are showing off some pure recognizable rock and roll adrenaline and reminding us why Kasabian were so unfuckwithable to begin with. Fire it up below.
