Back in innocent and otherwise innocuous August, Johnny Marr dropped a SOTY contender like dynamite in “Spirit, Power & Soul”, an excellent new track that continues a new chapter in the iconic musician’s legacy. Now The Smiths guitarist has detailed his new double album, Fever Dreams Pts 1-4, set for release February 25 via BMG, and unveiled three additional songs to comprise the 2LP’s first section, appropriately called Fever Dreams Pt. 1.
The Fever Dreams collection — which features backing vocals throughout from the Massachusetts-based singer-songwriter Meredith Sheldon — marks Marr’s first new album since 2018’s masterful Call The Comet album, and we could possibly be getting each piece in four-song packages between now and the February drop date.
“There’s a set of influences and a very broad sound that I’ve been developing — really since getting out of The Smiths until now, and I hear it in this record,” says Marr, who will open for The Killers here in North America next year between August and October. “There are so many strands of music in it. We didn’t do that consciously, but I think I’ve got a vocabulary of sound. And I feel very satisfied that I’ve been able to harness it.”
Marr is set to detail the writing and recording of Fever Dreams Pts 1-4 via an exclusive livestream premiering November 10 titled Live At The Crazy Face Factory, where he’ll broadcast from his custom-built studio to discuss the creative process and perform live with a full band.
