It’s officially the start of spooky week here at Vanyaland, which really doesn’t mean anything other than displaying our genuine excitement over Halloween finally arriving this weekend. But that still counts for a lot. To get us really worked up into a frightful frenzy, Long Island trio Gamblers have busted out a double single release that stirs up a pair of ace renditions: A cruising post-punk cover of Ramones’ modern classic “Pet Sematary” and a lounge act spin on Bobby Pickett’s timeless “Monster Mash.”
Both are now streaming on Spotify, and as of today (October 25), “Pet Sematary” has gotten the official music video treatment. It stars a cameo from the undead Sun-Vet Mall in Holbrook — “Voted Best Mall on Long Island in 1987,” according to Twitter — and another, actual local graveyard as the band tries to bring its drummer back from the dead. Word is the crew was stopped twice while filming, first at the mall by security, and then by Suffolk County police during the graveyard scenes. “Perhaps bringing a smoke machine into a graveyard after hours isn’t the best idea to avoid bringing attention to yourself?” Gamblers ask.
Seems worth the trouble. Bury yourselves into the “Pet Sematary” video and two-track stream below.
