British indie-pop group Blossoms are pretty popular these days, but no one is more popular, anywhere, any time, than the Mummy, Dracula, Wolf Man, Frankenstein, and Frankie’s Bride. So it’s a power move by the band to step aside and let the world famous monsters take center stage in their new video for “Your Girlfriend”.
This new joint from Blossoms have a bit of a Talking Heads vibe to it, and marks their first wave of new tunes since las April’s Cool Like You LP. It’s a top-shelf tune, for sure, perfect for these vibrant June days, but the music video is where it’s at; the James Slater-directed clip depicts all the Blossoms fellas dressed up in costume. Every damn day is Halloween in their world.
“I think I saw it on the telly or maybe heard it on another song,” Tom Ogden says of the song. “Someone was saying they’re in love with their friend’s girlfriend and I thought ‘Ooh that’s a good, strange take on a love song’. A different angle to go at and it’s obviously not about me, just to be clear! I was listening to a lot of Talking Heads at the time, and I think that shines through in the way the song grooves. These are some of my favourite lyrics I’ve ever written, there’s a lot of humor in there.”
Fits the clip all too well.
