Another example of peak post-breakup bravado, singer Sophie Cates’ newest tune and video under her moniker Silver Sphere offer breathy brawn to her self-contained alt-pop universe, soon to be shared with the world on her forthcoming EP YIKES!
“‘Sucks 4 u’ is about the feeling of finally overcoming a difficult breakup and realizing that you’re gonna be okay. I wanted the song to be inspiring to people going through that hard time, but also an anthem for people who really feel on top of the world after going through it,” Cates tells Vanyaland. “The song brings back that feeling of strength and excitement I had when I finally got over the relationship. Writing this song helped me look past those negative things and focus on the positives in my life at the time, and I hope it does the same for everyone listening.”
