Studio 52 Featured Band of the Week: Matt Murphy

Studio 52 Spotlight: Matt Murphy

What Studio 52 Says: Boston-based Matt Murphy released his folk-punk acoustic EP Salt this past April, and the five-track album shows the immense talent of solo songwriters in our city. Opening with the quick-paced “Safe” and setting a high precedent for the rest of the EP, the record hits its stride early.

Murphy’s raspy vocals overlay his excellent and nimble guitar playing coupled with a bluesy harmonica track to illustrate the epitome of his rugged style of acoustic work. His DIY ethic also applies to the consistent arrangement of live shows he takes on. This is where his music is truly invigorating as the sing-a-long potential is bountiful — his songs are best experienced in a shabby club with your friends, beers in hand, screaming each and every word.

Feel free to confirm this for yourself when Matt Murphy shares the stage with Will Varley and Anna Rose at Great Scott in Allston on Wednesday night (June 12).
