UPSAHL looks to the future of alt-pop on ‘Hindsight 20/20’

It feels like only yesterday (it wasn’t), but we first got hip to alt-pop singer UPSAHL back in July 2017, when we featured the Phoenix native’s track “Can You Hear Me Now” on a summer V:Music playlist alongside NÏKA, Tyler, The Creator, RÓSA, Dan Croll, Skott, and others. It was a nice introduction, but it certainly suggested some sonic sizzle was yet to come.

Fast forward nearly two years later, and UPSAHL is poised for a breakout. The now Los Angeles-based performer recently issued her Hindsight 20/20 EP, and its dazzling social clout takedown track “Drugs” is starting to get noticed by local radio.

“I wrote this EP over the course of 2018 and after I moved from Phoenix to LA,” UPSAHL says. “I was writing songs every day and learning to be alone while all of my friends went to college and were doing college things. It was my first time away from home. I was discovering so much about myself and my relationships with people in my life that my days writing songs in the studio turned into sort of therapy sessions. I would just spill out whatever was on my mind on any given day. Hindsight 20/20 represents my reflection on this past year and all the experiences I had.”
