Phoebe Green is done dumbing herself down in ‘Dreaming Of’

It doesn’t take long for Phoebe Green to tell you exactly where she stands in “Dreaming Of”, her enchanting indie-pop single that today (May 28) gets the video treatment.

“You don’t get to choose what makes me blue,” the British singer-songwriter deadpans right at the start. “I don’t want to compromise myself for you.” It feels like both a bold declaration to another person and a necessary reassurance towards herself as she opens up amidst a landscape of autumn colors, stylish mirrors, and a mid-century modern atmosphere.

“I think being a young person today it’s so easy to let the way others perceive you determine your self worth,” the 21-year-old Green tells The FADER, who premiered the clip. “The past few years I have felt the need to change the way I behave in order to appease others, to fit into a box and to be compliant. I no longer want to dumb myself down or be a lesser version of myself so that I’m easier to digest, and ‘Dreaming Of’ is a passive aggressive, sugarcoated representation of that.”

It’s a mindset to which we can all subscribe. Watch the “Dreaming Of” video, directed by Harvey Frost, below.
