Whether or not anyone wants to admit it, Lil Nas X was the buzz artist to see at Boston Calling this year.
More than the chorus of “Stressed Out,” more than the catharsis “Take Me to Church,” and perhaps even more than a buzzed, blissed-out rendition of “Sicko Mode,” the two most anticipated minutes of the weekend belonged to the Atlanta rapper’s single “Old Town Road.”
Amidst multiple lineup changes to Boston Calling this year, Lil Nas X was added earlier this spring to help balance Saturday’s musical equation, officially making him the only “special guest performer” to ever be announced as part of the BC lineup.
He emerged tonight (May 25) during Anderson .Paak’s set at the green stage to claim his triumphant two minutes of fame — or more accurately, his seven weeks of fame, seeing that “Od Town Road” has been #1 on Billboard for almost two months now.
His next Boston appearance? Rumored to be Monday at a Bruins Stanley Cup Final watch party at City Hall Plaza. Stay tuned.
