Studio 52 Spotlight: shallow pools
What Studio 52 Says: Massachusetts trio shallow pools dropped their debut EP Spring a couple months back and the unparalleled alternative/pop-punk performance leaves us breathless. Starting as a cover band in 2012 before pivoting to writing in 2016 and settling on the name in 2018, shallow pools now sets the standard for melodic and pop-driven rock with each member melding with one another to create an undoubtedly solid infrastructure.
Vocalist Glynnis Brennan lays all her cards on the table with her lyrical content snaking through anxiety and depression while guitarist Jess Gromada and drummer Ali Ajemian add their punchy and vivacious elements. The payoff is through each song on the five-track EP having a life of its own and never managing to slow down and letting you collect your thoughts. It’s 15 minutes of unadulterated and honest harmonies that rival even the greatest in the genre.
Already having a considerable amount of shows under their belt for this year, shallow pools continue on with a hefty summer agenda fast approaching. Don’t miss them Thursday night (May 30) at O’Brien’s Pub in Allston for TIFFY’S EP release show with The Skirts and Bandicoot.
