HarpoonFest Spotlight: Aubrey Haddard
What Vanyaland Says: Aubrey Haddard is Boston’s certified soul-music slinger. Coming from a background of a slew of different groups — The New Review, Breakfast for the Boys, and Sonomosaic — the singer/songwriter achieved skyward success last year with her debut solo LP Blue Part, a ten-track opus that’s all stimulating simmer. She brings the blaze of Blue Part and her solo strut to HarpoonFest this Saturday (May 18) on stage 2 at 3:05 p.m.
As we explained last year when her single “I Should Know Better” dropped: “When Aubrey Haddard proclaims that she’s ‘got to get out of this place,’ as she does on on new solo single ‘I Should Know Better,’ the obvious interpretation is that she’s stuck in dead-end or otherwise faulty relationship. But when you take Haddard’s expansive musical repertoire into consideration, maybe the line signals stretching her songwriting wings — which is exactly what her solo project aims to do, spreading the wealth far and wide throughout the umpteen-plus different music scenes in Boston.”
