To celebrate the 10th anniversary of debut album Manners, Boston-born electronic-pop project native Passion Pit have embarked on a month-long tour, and it kicked off Tuesday night (April 30) at Tempe’s Marquee Theater. After the release of Manners, Passion Pit songwriter and principal member Michael Angelakos struggled with his mental health, and doing so publicly only brought up more painful memories. The next few years were nothing short of tumultuous, including coming out and divorcing his wife, as well as producing more music and spending more time on the road — a part of his career as a musician that Angelakos openly dislikes. Now, as Passion Pit, Angelakos is preparing to write and record new material, and the Buffalo native told Billboard that he’s actually looking forward to the tour: “I think it might be the thing to really jumpstart my creativity again. Because it’s something to be proud of.” This anniversary run, which includes Canadian four-piece The Beaches as opener, features 18 dates across North America, and it makes a homecoming stop at Boston’s House of Blues on May 23.
