If you're a Boston-based cinephile, this is undoubtedly one of the most exciting times of the year for you, as the Independent Film Festival Boston has returned with one of their strongest line-ups ever. Running from April 24 through May 1 at the Brattle, Somerville and Coolidge Corner Theatres, there's so many great movies showing at this year's festival that we've had to split our preview up into three parts. We published our first preview on Tuesday, covering the first few days of the festival's line-up and you should check back soon for the third piece about what's in store over the next week or so. For now, here are some choice cuts from Saturday and Sunday of the festival's programming. Tickets and more information are available at the IFFBoston website.

Cold Case Hammarskjöld

Sunday, April 28 at 6 p.m.at the Somerville Theatre

Best known on these shores for his 2011 agitprop documentary The Ambassador, Danish agitator and filmmaker Mads Brügger sets his sights on an even bigger story: the potential conspiracy behind the 1961 death of UN Secretary-General Dag Hammarskjöd in a plane crash. We’ve heard tons about this film since its premiere at Sundance earlier this year — it was the single most-recommended documentary to us during our time in Park City — and it may very well be the most explosive film showing at this year’s IFFBoston, to be sure. Definitely don’t miss this one.
