If you're a Boston-based cinephile, this is undoubtedly one of the most exciting times of the year for you, as the Independent Film Festival Boston has returned with one of their strongest line-ups ever. Running from April 24 through May 1 at the Brattle, Somerville and Coolidge Corner Theatres, there's so many great movies showing at this year's festival that we've had to split our preview up into three parts. We published our first preview on Tuesday, covering the first few days of the festival's line-up and you should check back soon for the third piece about what's in store over the next week or so. For now, here are some choice cuts from Saturday and Sunday of the festival's programming. Tickets and more information are available at the IFFBoston website.

Loro

Sunday, April 28 at 12:15 p.m. at the Somerville Theatre

This new film from The Great Beauty and Youth director Paolo Sorrentino is about one of the most controversial figures in Italian politics since the end of the war: politician and businessman Silvio Berlusconi, who was the country’s Prime Minister from 2008 to 2011. Sorrentino re-teams with his Great Beauty star Toni Servillo, who stars in the lead role, and if you know anything about Berlusconi’s history, you know that this is most definitely a meaty role. We’re excited to see Sorrentino’s take on the story, as it is sure to be incendiary and very explicit. It’ll make great after-church Sunday viewing, that’s for sure.
