Editor’s Note: When we spoke to Japanese Breakfast in an extended interview that ran last month, Philadelphia’s Michelle Zauner admitted she was nervous about leaving “the nest of The Sinclair”. Zauner and her project became quite comfortable playing the Cambridge venue, but the popularity of Japanese Breakfast — continuing a steady rise after the release of 2016’s Psychopomp and the following year’s Soft Sounds from Another Planet — brought Zauner into larger rooms, not just here in Boston but in every city across the country. On this tour, Japanese Breakfast elevated up to perform two nights at Royale in Boston, April 1 and 6; the former a second show added on after the later sold out rather fast. Revisit Victoria Wasylak’s discussion with Zauner here, and scan through a gallery of Saturday’s show below, shot by Vanyaland’s John Hutchings, which include a few of the openers, New Jersey’s Long Beard.
