The new album from Cave In will arrive June 7 via Hydra Head Industries. Listen to the LP’s lead single ‘All Illusion’.
Massachusetts rock band Cave In have detailed their new album, Final Transmission, a collection of songs that feature the last recordings of bassist Caleb Scofield with the band.
The LP will be released June 7 via Hydra Head Industries, and among its nine tracks, Scofield — who at the age of 39 was killed in an automobile accident in March of last year — plays bass on six and guitar on two others. Half of Final Transmission’s proceeds will go to the Scofield family; the musician left behind a wife and two small children.
The album begins with a voice memo from Scofield, sent to the band just weeks before his tragic death. And most of the LP’s lyrics were written in the aftermath of his passing. It sounds like it will be a very emotional listen.
“I don’t think I’ve cried so much putting together any record,” says vocalist Stephen Brodsky, via Kerrang. “I’ve definitely felt like bursting into tears while I was working on things, but this was actual water being shed. I don’t try to look too deeply into how these things work, but these recordings are some of our last moments spending time with [Caleb].”
In June, many of Scofield’s bandmates and colleagues came together for “A celebration of the life and art of Caleb Scofield” benefit show at Royale, and similar memorials and fundraisers have happened around the world.
Cave In also this morning released a new track from the LP titled “All Illusion,” and a local live show — they play The Sinclair on October 19.
