Last time we caught up with the always-buzzing K.Flay, we were attempting the impossible: Trying to capture still images of her hyper-active live performance at Royale. Fast forward nearly a year later, and Kristine Flahery is still all over the place, both in real life and in song. Today (March 1), the genre-bending singer, songwriter, rapper, and musician is back with a roaring new synth-stomp track called “Bad Vibes.” And while K.Flay’s music often brings folks together, its this song that she wants us to use to separate ourselves from the negative bullshit around us. “I saw this stupid prison-style tattoo that said, ‘Born dead’,” says K.Flay. “I thought, ‘Fuck you, man. I hate this tattoo’. With everything going on in the world right now, I wanted to make some positive music. The goal isn’t to be happy every minute; it’s just to move away from negative energy. Sonically, it’s the perfect introduction to the record. Fuck being sad all the time!” That’s something we can vibe too.
